Special shoes for Spinning?

Hi!

Ive been doing Spinning for about 2 years now, and Im thinking about getting the special shoes, as opposed to just using my normal sneakers. There are things I dont understand, though! Hopefully, you can help!

I want to know how I can be sure the shoes will "fit" the bikes at my gym? How can I find that out? Surely not all spinning cycles are generic? Are the cleats removable, based on the bikes being used? I just dont understand how I can get shoes that will fit the bikes!

I also wanted to know if it really makes a big difference using the special Spinning sneakers instead of normal sneakers?
