The tennis elbow pain typically exhibits gradual onset but may at times be sudden. Gradual onset normally takes place within a period of 24-72 hours following an intensive and unaccustomed wrist extension. For example, this may be from a tennis player who may have spent the whole weekend playing. Sudden onset may take place in a single exertion as is the case for a late back hand. This causes the wrist extensors to be strained and is viewed to cause micro-tearing of the tendons.
